Day 4: And the Gift of Gab Fell Upon All of the Travelers

We woke a little earlier today because our breakfast chamber isn't large enough for the whole group.  We had the late breakfast yesterday and today was our early turn.  Again, the Kingscourt breakfast wasn't too extravagant, but everyone was their share and then went to pack our belongings.

Today was considered a travel day as we made our way from the west coast of Ireland to the east, but standing about have way was the Blarney Castle.  I am not going to have a long-winded description of the journey, but we totally had a blast.  I tried something new out for this trip...using my GoPro to capture the moment for our kids. I hope you like the video.

I totally forgot to transfer another video from the grounds of the Blarney Castle...and based on the time it takes to transfer videos, I won't have it posted until tomorrow morning (my time).  A few words on Blarney for those who don't know much about the Castle...

There are rumors as to why the Castle is important, but much of it centers along a man and a rock.  Basically, the man had a lawsuit against him and he was responsible for pleading his case.  Sometype of soothsayer told the man to kiss a particular rock and it would bring him good luck.  He did...and the next day, he convinced the lord that he shouldn't be punished for his offense.  Henceforth, the stone brought people the ability to talk their way out of things, tell jokes, and manipulate others without them knowing.  I kissed the stone five years ago and decided against it today.  I was afraid that it would take away my gabbing abilities...and I need all the help I can get.  I find it funny that after kissing the blarney stone, our girls have started chatting with the other groups.  Confirmation bias or legitimized theory...you decide?

Inside the Castle grounds...but not quite in the castle.

Spring has arrived in Ireland, but from what I heard, it was delayed in New England!

A formidable look at Blarney Castle

There is a waterfall behind the girls.

Women are just as strong as men...these girls, Rock.

Above the three windows, you will see a small hole...the Blarney stone is where the hole is.  You lay on your back, scootch out, and pucker up!

For dinner tonight, we went to Taylor's Three Rock.  The group divided in half.  Some of us wanted to attend the Irish Dinner Dance and the others wanted to head back to the hotel.  For dinner, we had the option of Burger or Traditional Irish Bacon.  The burger was basically meatloaf.  All reports was that it was good, but I settled for the bacon (Boiled dinner).  It was a slice of ham, turnips/parsnips, mashed potatoes, and cabbage.  Once again, it was good, but my mom's version is way better!!!

I waited in the lobby for the other girls to get back (Joseph, our Tour Director, was in charge of them and the other 20 people who went).  They came in with huge smiles on their faces.  Apparently the show was a hit.  Sophie was chosen to dance on stage...there is video somewhere!!!

It's about 11pm.  The girls are all going to bed and getting ready for an exciting day in Dublin tomorrow.  Travel days can sometimes be more exhausting than tour days.  Joseph actually apologized to us for what he called a "boring day."  I asked the girls if they thought it was boring and they all said No.  This was, according to them, the best day so far.  Perspective matters.  It rained today, pretty much the whole day, but no one complained.

I am going to try to upload that other video while I go to bed and I will post it if it works.  Thanks for understanding the shortened post tonight!!!

  1. I hope the girls get to at least see the inside of a genuine Irish Pub while they are there. Another thing on my bucket list.
